"If you’re interested in history, be sure to visit King John's Castle on Kings Island, at the medieval heart of Limerick. The 800 year old fortress is one of the best preserved castles from the Middle Ages. A Viking fortification was already here in 922, but the massive structure that stands today dates from the 13th century."

The Top Art Galleries in Limerick, Ireland
"Ireland’s biggest private collection might not quite match up to the massive state-run offerings up in the capital, but The Hunt Museum is a classy spot, crammed to the gills with both art and history. There’s a revolving door of exhibitions, featuring a host of local artists, while the permanent collection allows you to grab a glance at the works of the likes of Irish icon Jack B Yeats, Pablo Picasso and Paul Gauguin. The history section’s not at all bad, either."

The Top Art Galleries in Limerick, Ireland
"The state-operated rival to the Hunt Museum in this part of the world is the Limerick City Gallery of Art. Almost 500 artists are represented in the permanent collection alone, tracking the development of Irish art in its modern form. A great introduction, this spot also hosts more of the work of distinctive abstract artists like Jack B Yeats, as well as poster artist Michael O’Connor (who has almost 3,000 works currently hosted by the gallery), plus depictions from around Ireland, from Kerry pubs to Wicklow hills."

"Limerick's excellent gallery adjoins the peaceful People's Park in the heart of Georgian Limerick. Among its permanent collection of paintings from the last 300 years are works by Sean Keating and Jack B Yeats. Temporary exhibitions of conceptual and thought-provoking contemporary art fill the other well-lit galleries. The gallery is the home of eva International, Ireland's contemporary art biennial held across the city in even-numbered years. Check the website for dates."

"If you’re driving then a place I would recommend going to near Limerick is Bunratty Village and Bunratty Castle & Folk Park. I actually visited here on a family holiday when I was about 11 and loved it!. I drove through the village on my way from Shannon to Limerick this time and it brought back so many memories.
